Caterpillar Inc. is an industrial giant whose global mission is building earth-moving equipment.  At its world headquarters in downtown Peoria, Ill., Caterpillar needed a safe way to move people across two busy streets.

Services
Working as a subconsultant to LZT Associates Inc., a Peoria-based architecture firm, Hanson developed the structural design for two pedestrian skywalks, one connecting the main building with an office building they acquired across the street and the other connecting the main building with the employee parking facility.  The two bridges, one 142 feet long and the other 102 feet long, spanning two downtown streets, provided employees and visitors with a safe, scenic way to cross the street and protection from the elements.

Hanson also performed geotechnical studies and developed a scheme using auger cast pile foundations, as well as providing construction observation and weld inspection during the bridges' construction.
