Description
The Chestnut Street Bridge spans the Rock River in downtown Rockford, Ill., and consists of four steel-plate girder spans with a cast-in-place concrete deck.

Services
In the course of biennial bridge inspections for the city of Rockford, Hanson documented severe concrete deck deterioration which led to the replacement of the existing bridge deck.

The city of Rockford hired Hanson to provide planning and design engineering services associated with the deck replacement. Hanson also provided construction engineering services, including construction observation, construction layout, material testing, shop drawing review and documentation.

Since the project was programmed to use federal bridge replacement and rehabilitation program funds, Hanson prepared the necessary bridge condition report and project development report according to the Illinois Department of Transportation requirements. Hanson also provided additional reports and plans, specifications and estimates, which were prepared to federal project standards.
