Description
St. Louis County contracted with Hanson for the preliminary and final design of a new replacement two-span bridge (43 feet - 43 feet) that carries Conway Road over Creve Coeur Creek. The superstructure consists of 32-inch precast, prestressed concrete I-beams with a reinforced concrete deck. The bridge’s substructure consists of reinforced concrete columns, a fixed pier supported by pile foundations and semi-integral abutments. The structure has a 40-degree skew. The bridge was designed using AASHTO Category B seismic criteria; the software program Seisab was utilized for assistance with seismic design.
The project also included improvements to 0.5 miles of roadway, including a revised horizontal alignment, revised profile
grade, widening from two to three lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks and storm drainage. The project utilized staged construction.
A hydraulic analysis was performed for the layout of the new bridge and to assist in the sizing of the creek structure opening.
Services
Engineering services included surveys (the collection of topographic survey data and a route survey for 1/2-mile of roadway), preliminary design layout, preliminary and final roadway design, right-of-way plans, and preliminary and final bridge plans.
