Compensation and benefits

401(k) Plan and Matching Contribution
Available to eligible employees, Hanson's 401(k) Plan allows you to defer a portion of your income by a specific percentage and contribute that percentage to the plan on a pre-tax basis which lowers your taxable income by an amount equal to your savings. The company also makes contributions to the plan on your behalf in the form of profit-sharing contributions or matching contributions. The plan allows for flexibility in investment choices with a variety of funds. Eligible employees may participate after completing six months of service.

Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOT)
Our Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOT) plan, offered by our holding company, Hanson Group Inc., allows you to save for retirement on a tax-deferred basis. The purpose of the plan is to enable you to participate in the growth and prosperity of the company by making you a stockholder. Your efforts, added to the efforts of all Hanson employees, contribute to the profitability and growth of the company and increase the value of Hanson's company stock and your benefits. Eligible employees may participate in the ESOT plan after completing six months of service.

Stock purchase program
As an employee-owned company, one of the benefits available to employees is the opportunity to buy stock and increase ownership in the company. Typically on an annual basis, eligible employees may purchase company stock, thereby investing in their future and in the company's future success.

Medical and dental insurance
Eligible employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in a Self-Insured Medical Insurance Plan. Dental insurance is also available.

Audio/vision care coverage
Hanson offers audio and visual insurance to eligible employees. You may also choose to purchase optional, affordable coverage for your dependents. The audio plan provides coverage for audio examinations and hearing-aid services, supplies and repairs. Hanson's visual plan provides coverage for services such as eye examinations, lenses, and contacts and frames.

Flexible-benefits plan
Eligible employees may use pre-tax dollars to pay for dependent health-care expenses which are not covered by any insurance plan by setting aside a portion of their monthly salary on a pre-tax basis. One of the most important features of our plan is that the benefits offered are generally ones that you are already paying for, but normally with money that has first been subject to income, Social Security and Medicare taxes.

Under our plan, these same expenses will be paid for with a portion of your pay before federal income taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes and, in most cases, state income taxes are withheld. This means that you will pay less tax and have more money to spend and save.

Life insurance
We realize that the need for life-insurance protection depends on individual circumstances and financial situations. That is why Hanson offers life-insurance coverage that is intended to add an extra dimension to your personal insurance portfolio. To make your benefits program more comprehensive and responsive to your needs, Hanson provides this insurance to eligible employees at no cost. Additional voluntary-term insurance is available for employees and their dependents to purchase at reasonable rates.

Short-term and long-term disability
Eligible employees are provided both short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost. Both plans replace a substantial portion of the employee's income.

Paid time-off benefits
Based on length of service with the firm, employees accrue a generous amount of vacation and sick leave biweekly. Paid bereavement leave and holiday pay are also available as separate paid time-off programs.

Part-time employee benefits
Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for medical and dental insurance, flexible-benefit plans, life and disability insurance, bereavement leave and vacation, sick leave and holiday paid time-off programs.

Professional development programs
Hanson offers employees various training and professional development programs both on-site and off-site. Employees can view up-to-date continuing education and seminar opportunities on Hanson's Intranet site.

Educational Assistance Plan
Employee education, training and development play a crucial part in the current and continuing success of our employees and of Hanson by providing better-informed, more technically proficient staff. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for education, training and development. The plan provides for payment of tuition, fees, books, equipment and supplies for courses at accredited public colleges, universities and community colleges. All full-time employees and part-time employees who work at least half-time are eligible.

Employee Recognition Programs
Hanson has an annual initiative to recognize employees who are celebrating specific employment anniversaries. A bonus also is paid to those employees being recognized.

Flextime
At Hanson, we are consistently working toward our goals while helping our customers meet theirs. We work hard, but also offer flexible work hours to help you meet your professional, personal and family needs.

Long-term care
Hanson provides long-term care insurance to eligible employees to help protect themselves and their families in the event they need long-term health-care services such as home-health care or long-term facility care. Additional voluntary long-term care insurance is available for employees and their dependents to purchase at reasonable rates.

Cancer/Critical Illness Protection
Hanson offers employees the opportunity to purchase cancer/critical illness protection coverage using pre-tax dollars. This benefit is also portable, meaning you can take the coverage with you should you cease your employment with Hanson.
