Project
description
Hanson
was chosen to assist with planning efforts to reuse Chanute Air
Force Base in Rantoul, Ill. We prepared the airport layout
plan in conjunction with the environmental assessment by the U.S.
Department of the Air Force. The plan called for developing
a 10,000-foot
primary runway, a
5,000-foot crosswind runway, two
areas reserved for major aircraft maintenance facilities, and
four
existing military hangars.
We
also assisted in identifying potential borrow sources for landfill
cap design at this site. We developed a geologic model of
the surface soils and prioritized and ranked potential borrow areas
by transport distance, strata thickness, location and quantity.
