Hanson
has provided various services for the Great Lakes Naval Training
Center in Great Lakes, Ill., through two indefinite delivery contracts.
Service highlights of the vehicle maintenance facility, diesel engineman
training facility, applied training building and ship mock-up, combat
training pool, and recreation center renovation are presented below.
Vehicle maintenance facility
- provided
programming, space planning, complete AE design and construction
documents and consultation services during construction;
- contained
work bays for highway and construction vehicles, emissions, tire
changing and mounting, and wheel alignment;
- included
three vehicle lifts, a lube storage and distribution area, a tire
storage area, a parts storage area, a body shop, a paint booth,
an engine exhaust removal system, and a mechanical steam clean
and car wash;
- incorporated
an EPDM roofing system; and
- relocation
and extension of overhead and underground electrical systems to
the building, including poles, ducts, cables and transformers.
The
complete utilities extension and site improvement design were included.
Diesel
engineman training facility
prepared
pre-design planning (Form 1391); programming; design and construction
documents; research analysis; and equipment and space requirements
and site evaluations for this 54,000-square-foot facility;
- coordinated
efforts with several different Navy commands while providing complete
design and construction documents;
- provided
equipment installation and fit-up documents for the shipboard
propulsion equipment and building mechanical equipment installation;
and
- included
classrooms, five computer-simulated equipment operating console
training rooms, and a 28-inch-high bay area.
Applied
training building and ship mock-up
- supplied
planning and design for the construction of this 11,492-square-foot
facility;
- worked
with the Great Lakes Naval Training Center on architectural and
engineering design and construction documents for the ship mock-up
"USS Neversail," used to support apprentice seamen;
- prepared
equipment layout and fit-up documents for the mock-up ship and
the building mechanical equipment installation; and
- included
classrooms and a 40-foot-high bay area for the mock-up.
Combat
training pool facility
- construction
documents, construction administration and site observation for
53,000-square-foot training facility;
- 21-by-50
meter survival pool and 9-by-20 meter remedial pool with support
systems for water filtration and humidity control;
- two
160-student classrooms for academic training, student and staff
shower and locker room areas, a staff control area, recruiting
facilities, and break areas; and
- parking
lot, landscaping and utility extensions.
Humidity
control was a big factor in designing the systems of this facility.
Recreation center renovation
- construction
documents, construction administration and site observation for
the remodeling of the third floor of building 2A into a recreation
area for sailors; and
- 22,000-square-foot
floor layout, including a living room for table games, reading
and relaxation; video and computer game rooms; three meeting rooms
for miscellaneous events; four sound booths for vocal and instrumental
play; and a food service area.
