McAlester
Ammunition Plant
(USACE, Tulsa District)
Hanson
has completed work on the
McAlester Ammunition Plant in Oklahoma, upgrading the plant
to a tier one facility. In case of global conflict, the plant
would be required to ship 400 containers of munitions per day, 90
percent by rail. Our role in upgrading the facility consisted
of designing the container and rail handling facilities to support
an increase in container loading capabilities in the following four
areas:
- container
receiving/repair yard: a 120-by-1,700 foot concrete
slab for loading/unloading containers, empty container storage
yard and operations support building;
- loading
dock: two new tracks and 100-by-350 foot concrete slab
for transferring containers from trucks to rail cars;
- battery
charging building: to charge the batteries of fork lift
trucks used to load munitions into containers; and
- staging
yard: a seven-track rail yard to be used to store empty
rail cars and interchange traffic with the Union Pacific Railroad.
