Hanson Supports the Military
Hanson has a long history of support for the military including an especially in-depth and comprehensive program for National Guard and Reserve employees. This level of support starts at the president and CEO Sergio “Satch” Pecori, whose son has served three tours in Iraq, and continues throughout the organization and at all levels.
For employed service members, pay, benefit and leave policies are generous and include differential pay for both annual training periods and during mobilization, continued insurance coverage, and company contributions to the stock bonus program. The company also makes monthly contact with the service member’s family, sends a monthly care package and provides emotional support during deployment. Hanson has extended this support to relatives of employees by the organization of multiple care package drives, usually one to two each year since 2001.
Hanson’s human resources department conducts USERRA training and is an active participant in Military job fairs, hiring numerous veterans for various office locations. Hanson recognizes the specific service of employees and family members on its Web page and through its newsletter and press releases, as well as through local recognition opportunities such as the American Red Cross, which sponsors a hero’s breakfast and of which Hanson is the Military Hero Sponsor. Hanson encourages and supports employee support of the military, including providing for both time and resources. Hanson employees recently provided pro-bono engineering assistance to an engineer unit serving in IRAQ for bridge analysis and design. Hanson also sent representatives in 2007 to the Adjutant General’s State-of-State visit to capital hill in Washington, D.C.
Hanson is a recipient of the Above and Beyond award and its leadership has received the Patriot Award. Hanson professionals continually serve on various Military boards and organizations including EGSR (committee volunteer), the Society of American Military Engineers (Hanson personnel serving as directors of various posts) the Military Advisory Council of Springfield, chaired by Hanson employee Gene Blade, COL, ret., the Lt. Gov Post BRAC Committee, and the Illinois Military Historical Society (including the hosting of multiple fund raisers).
