Burlington Northern Santa Fe flood management survey program

Location: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri

BNSF hired us to evaluate and monitor river-flooding conditions along the Mississippi, Missouri and Red rivers from the U.S./Canadian border to New Orleans. In less than two weeks, the Hanson team created databases to correlate predicted river crests and current stages to the top of the high-priority rail lines. 

We continue to monitor flood conditions for the railroad and maintain and update the database used for these predictions. Through the use of this system, BNSF is provided warnings to assist them in rerouting traffic to unaffected rail lines.
