Illinois School for the Visually Impaired
Hanson provided demolition plans for three dormitory buildings
on the east portion of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired
grounds, located in Jacksonville, Ill. The demolition of the three
dorms made room for the construction of a new 29,000 square-foot
single story dormitory that housed 64 residents. The designed dormitory
met Americans with Disabilities Act criteria, with each dormitory
accessible to wheelchairs. The building has four pods emanating
from a central one. The pods are fully independent from each other
and have the capability of being closed off as the student population
fluctuates during the year.
